Our History

Heritage began with God putting a vision on Jim Glynn’s heart in March of 1993, and the church was launched shortly thereafter in a living room in Capistrano Beach. Together they served to create House to House Christian Fellowship with the vision of a relational church that was outreach focused and leading people in a deeper walk with God. The church was named because of our desire to be like the New Testament church that met in homes (Acts 5:42).

House to House quickly grew out of meeting in homes and moved into the Community Center in downtown San Clemente. In the early years, two churches merged with House to House (Marvista Community Church and Cristianitos Community Church), as others realized we can achieve more together than alone. The church name was then changed to Heritage Christian Fellowship, reflecting our desire to provide a heritage in Christ to future generations.

During our merger with Cristianitos Community Church, we realized they had acquired an undeveloped piece of land in the Rancho San Clemente Business Park. That plot of land is now our church campus. It took 15 months of construction before the building was complete in 2000. During that time, we had a period of deep sacrifice by many so that others would be blessed with a facility for years to come. Shortly after we settled into our new facility, the church was able to acquire the adjacent vacant lot from the City of San Clemente. Learn more about the plans for that lot here.

In 2020, after almost three decades in existence, Peter Klause was appointed by the Board of Elders to become the new lead Elder. Since then, the church’s commitment to being a church modeled after the New Testament church described in Acts 2:42-47, is stronger than ever.

In addition, Peter spear-headed the staff and Elders with a new vision statement that better reflects the church’s ability to fit into the ever-expanding global Body of Christ as Heritage Christian Fellowship is the church where you can “Experience the Presence of God and the Power of Family”.

If you believe that God wants to add you to us, then you are becoming part of a community of faith that is excited about living sold-out lives for Jesus. We want to live in an authentic expression of Christianity that will shine a light out into our city and our world. In this way, we will see His Kingdom extended, His name glorified and His church growing to be the beautiful bride for which Jesus will return.
