Elementary School (He Brought a Zoo)

Jesus says, “In this world you will have trouble.” That’s not very comforting is it? We will face sickness, temptations, failures and rejection. Even Jesus had trouble. He was tempted, persecuted, beaten, and crucified. He could’ve taken an easy way out. He is God! Instead, the Apostle Paul says that Jesus showed determination by being obedient to death—even death on a cross! (Philippians 2:8, NIV). One reason Jesus was able to have determination was that He knew God was with Him. Jesus was able to trust God, knowing that God would give Him the strength He needed. And here’s something really cool; the same God who was with Jesus has promised to give you the strength you need to keep going—even when it’s hard and even when others give up. In this week’s Bible story, God tells Noah to build an ark. It took him decades, but Noah was determined to do what’s right no matter how long it took! Even if others thought he was nuts, Noah continued to make the wise choice and follow God. When times get tough, it’s tempting to find a shortcut, develop a bad attitude, or just give up. But since we trust that God is in control, we are motivated to keep doing what we know is the right thing. Following God may not always be easy, but it’s worth it.
